Working with a local framing shop, I ordered a large number of custom-made frames in progressively smaller dimensions, stacking and nesting them to produce three "paintings" that included no actual brushwork on my part — questioning where the frame ends and the artwork begins.
The frame of an oil painting exists in a dimension that is neither two nor three. When numerous outer frames are densely woven together, it becomes unclear whether the content inside is a visual language that draws attention to the painting's materiality — or whether it is, like the outer frame itself, simply an object. By being shown as a flat piece of art on a wall, the work challenges the conventional separation between two- and three-dimensional art forms.
